Based on classic grotesque type forms, Echo Grotesque is a sturdy workhorse font that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Idiosyncratic proportional variation in the uppercase characters as well as the use of round forms as dots and punctuation marks provide points of departure from EG’s forebears and hint at the some of the interestingly-drawn san serif typography found on storefronts in Los Angeles’ Echo Park neighborhood. Echo Grotesque is rational and legible with its own slightly-wonky character.
